The hotel was well located along the lakeside, but the carpark was away from the front of the hotel. We had a slight difficulty with a fellow guest, who deliberately blocked the last remaining carpark lot, by refusing to let us park our car. He stood in front of the lot, daring us to knock him down. Hence, this experience left a bitter taste of an otherwise acceptable experience in Kawaguchi.

We had never been to Japan before and if you type into your computer "which is the most popular destination in Japan", it will tell you Mt Fuji, so we decided to go. So did 10 million other tourists!!!! It was a busy place especially around the bus/train station.
You have to visit the mountain, but watch the weather otherwise it could be a wasted trip as we found when we reached the 3,000 m mark on the bus with rain and thick cloud cover so no amazing views. Avoid the tourist shops as they are a "rip off" price wise, and once again expect lots and lots of tourists.
The place we stayed was the cheapest non dorm accommodation we could find in the area and it was good value for money with a great host, so would recommend staying there if you are on a tight budget. The room was small compared to European room sizes, but the private bathroom and toilet were great, although access to the room was difficult with large suitcases up a spiral staircase.
There is a shopping mall 10-15 minutes walk away with a selection of places to eat (Italian, Chinese, Japanese, burger joint) . The bus trip on the Red Line to the lake(s) area is a nice half day trip and cheap.
All in all, if you have never been before, GO, it's well worth it, and a direct bus service from/to both international airports.

We rented a car and drove from Tokyo to Yamanashi and for us it was perfect. We were able to see all 5 lakes in one day going from one to the other in succession.
The restaurants in the area offer a great variety of sushi, izakaya and bbq. There is also a great Omakase restaurant nearby the hotel called Fresh Water that offers a different experience to the usual tried and tested.
On the day of our departure back to Tokyo we decided to swing by Fuji Q Highland with low expectations - the theme park is legit with a great Naruto Village, high octane rollercoaster rides and from our own experience a great haunted house that lasts the majority of an hour to walk through.
Loved it. Would definitely revist the entire area.

Check the weather forecast before planning your trip to Kawaguchiko, as beside the view of Mt Fuji there's very little to do there, also restaurants are very rare and working hours is almost not existent, everything closes early or not open at all... so be mindful of the meals you should carry with you.

Beautiful, serene and scenic place.
Beautiful, serene and scenic place. Must spend at least 2 full days to explore the beauty of Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchiko. You can buy the unlimited pass for the sightseeing buses(Red Line and Green Line) from Kawaguchiko station where you can hop on and hop off the tourists spots. The Red Line covers 20 tourist spots within Fujikawagichiko. The ride from 1st sto to last stop is only 27 minutes. The bus comes every 15 to 30 minutes at the designated stops. The Green Line covers further destinations. The ride can be 40 minutes to the spot.

Stayed in this hotel on two weekdays. The staff kindly upgraded my room to the Japanese room with the lake view, that was a surprise and welcoming bonus. Their customer service was wonderful. The staff were attentive, easy to communicate, and friendly. The traditional Japanese room with futon was lovely. It's dated but clean and warm. The location is nearby two bus stops so easy access to main attractions. The bus schedule may not be as frequent on weekdays. It is possible to walk to nearby attractions if you are a walker.
Very nice Japanese ryokan room with tatami. The room also has a big space. Would be very nice in clear weather as you can see mt fuji straight from the window. Sadly when we were there fuji was not visible at all because it was snowing through the days. Location wise it is near lake kawaguchiko, however it is not very convenient if you don’t come with car, as it is a bit far from station. If you come by car there is free parking. The staff was nice and helpful. The breakfast was nice too! We got bento served in our room.
The lakeside hotel is a charming, older style Japanese hotel. Everything was so clean & the location right next to the lake and restaurants was amazing. We got lucky in that there were not many quests staying so we had the entire onsen area to ourselves the entire stay. The host/owner is so lovely and welcoming he made our time in Kawaguchiko even better! You also can’t beat the views you get from the hotel of mt fuji! Great value for money. Loved it!
You can choose to include meals in your stay, which I strongly recommend. This Hotel also provided FREE shuttle service from 3pm - 7pm from Lake Kawaguchiko Bus Station, and morning Shuttle to bus station from 8am - 10am. This Hotel is located just near to Yagizaki Park, which is a great spot for photos of Mt Fuji, strongly recommend. Oh and did I mention the Hot Springs in the Hotel is really awesome, they have indoor and outdoor Onsen/Hot Springs.
The traditional Japanese nature of Hotel Asafuji was amazing. The staff were very friendly and helpful with a great eye for detail. The dinner and breakfast that we had were SO good and beautifully prepared and presented at our own table. The onsen was great (a wonderful experience) and, of course, there was Mt Fuji visible (between times of cloud cover) from our room's window which also had an excellent view of Lake Kawaguchiko.
Great location, a bit farther away from the crowded Kawaguchiko, near beautiful lake. Spacious room, VERY comfy bed and pillows. You can book a private onsen or use public one - it’s not busy and tattoos are okay. The hotel is 30 min walk from the station, they also provide a shuttle from and to the station. Amazing view of the Mt Fuji from rooms as well as onsen and rooftop bar. Would definitely recommend and stay again myself!
This hotel is at the top of my list. It has a wonderful staff, location and facilities. You walk out to an amazing view of the lake and nearby shops. The shuttle service is nice and friendly. The front desk are amazing and very helpful. The hit public bath at the top floor is a treat with breath taking views and experience. Highly recommended the Japanese dinner and breakfast experience is a must. Love it.
It's a must-do when visiting mount Fuji ! The hotel, the TEAM, the room with Lake view, the food - dinner was WOW and breakfast so so good, atmosphere - everybody taking care of us with so much pleasure - this is real Japan to experience ! Make sure to book private onsen at check-in - view of Fuji is lovely, if you're lucky with weather during your stay !
the hotel room a bit old (Ryokan with Fuji mountain View) but facilities in room are very complete, the staff at receptions are very warm welcome and helpful, also the hotel have shuttle bus service to kawaguchiko station and you can reserve PRIVATE ONSEN for 50min with 3xxx yen this quite reasonable price. So overall everything was perfect.
Location right by the Yagizaki Parc, on the shore of Lake Kawaguchi, but most important with an absolutely stunning view on the Mount Fuji.
Hotel is designed like a Ryokan: rooms with Tatami mats, comfortable futons as beds, shared bathrooms with small Onsen, optional breakfast (changes by day between Japanese and western style).
Very nice cozy hotel with a stunning view in the japanese style room. Everyone was really friendly in the hotel and they had no problems with speaking english. There are also 2 onsen, one for women, one for men. Everything was very clean. We loved staying in the hotel. Thank you very much for this experience.
If you’re looking for a place to stay on your trip to Fuji, Plaza Inn Kawaguchiko is the best choice.
Located just in front of the Kawaguchiko Station, arround 150 meters by walk.
It’s an inn type of hotel. But it has everything we need.
The old man at the front desk was really friendly and helpful.
The location is great, 7 minutes walking to Fujikawaguchiko station and nearby restaurants/Lawson/family mart. The room is very clean with a separate toilet and bath/shower unit. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. Our suitcases were kept free until 4:30pm after we checked out.
The hotel is beautifully situated near a lake. From one side you see the woods and the lake and from the other Mt. Fuji. The rooms are Japanese style. The staff will convert the space into night space in the evening. The onsen is located outside which gives an extra point!
The professionalism and true care for each of the hotel’s guests. The meals were so incredible and the woman helping serve us was incredibly sweet, just made our stay wonderful and couldn’t recommend a better place for a traditional Japanese experience!
Wonderful view of the lake. Lovely old hotel with nice sitting rooms near the entrance. Great onsen open 24 hours. Friendly helpful staff. Free shuttle bus to the station. Great traditional Japanese room. Very spacious.
The lake view is good. The room is clean. Staffs service is excellent. Japanease Dinner and breakfast is good. Small bus service to Kawaguchiko station. Hotel have parking for cars, and lacates near local bus stop.
This is our third time at Onsen Konanso Hotel and we love it!! the onsen is fantastic, the rooms are beautiful and spotless and the dinner and breakfast is out if this world! We hope to go back again in the future.
The location near the lake, the onsen in the hotel, the traditional Japanese bedroom and the open air bath included in the bedroom. They provide you a kimono to wear in the hotel.
